First of all, I this is the wrong approach, to transfer maps, open Mapsource and do a 'send to device' for more info see the bottom of Page 17 of this document

If your maps are locked, it should complain when you try to send them to the unit using this method, let's try this step by step and see if we can get you to the end :-)
