Default What GPS unit are you using?

Hi everyone,

I am currently shopping for a GPS unit and find it very difficult to make my mind. Which unit are you using and what feature do you like best?

Here are some of the units that I am debating about:

Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx;
Garmin eTrex Legend HCx;
Garmin eTrex Vista HCx;
Garmin StreetPilot 2610; and
Tom Tom Rider.

Have a great holiday.

Gaetz

Currently I am using a Zumo 550 for motorcycly riding. Could not be happier. If there is one thing I could add, once you find one with everything you think you will need or use, also consider how often the manufacturer updates their software. Do to the price and the changes of the highway system, technical upgrades, and software/hardware chnages, this is important to get the most of your unit. Many times, old hardware may not be compatable with the newest saftware available.
I read somewhere where many of the garmin units that typically go on sale for a considerably less than their original price are scheduled for decommision. So many times these have been on the market for many years and the updates from garmain may not be compatable for future usage.
If money is a major concern, try for somthing thats been out 2-3 years, I want to say 5 years of garmin updates that are compatable would be about average.

Default GPS Units

Currently I am using a Zumo 500 with a 4GB SD and a 276C, although over the past few weeks I have also been using a Nuvi 650T, Nuvi 350T, Quest and 60Cs (I sell Garmins on the side and so regularly try out new ones)

Main Advantages of the ones I have looked at:

Zumo 500 with SD card: Good Value for money with most of what motorcyclists need.
GPSMap 276c: Great for doing track recording and excellent screen size and quality.
Nuvi 650T: Nice wide high quality screen and cool for the car with TMC
Nuvi 350T: Good Value for money and handy with TMC
Quest: An old favourite of mine on the motorbike, also good also for cycling
60cs: A rugged little unit with lots of nice trekking and adventure features although not cheap.

HTH.

Hi,
Perhaps a silly question since you are selling Garmin products but I wonder if you give me a good advice what GPS to buy for my motorcycle. For the moment I have a Tom Tom and I am not that impressed or happy with that one.

Regards

Fredric

That depends what you want really, what you use the unit for mainly and how much you want to spend.

Zumo 500 or 550 are good all round choices, the 500 being the cheapest but with an SD card, it can do most of what the 500 does (but no car kit)

If you like to fiddle more, you could get a 2nd hand Streetpilot, or my personal favourite, a 278 but to justify this you really need to know why you want one.

A zumo is a very good combination of most of the features you'll need, the antenna is good and it has a battery, and quite good route and track options

Does that help?

I've got a Tomtom Rider for the bikes and a Tomtom 910 for the car. I've also got the Porsche 2002 (Navtec I think) in my Boxster.
The 910 maps are out of date and can't be corrected. It's not worth my while buying new maps. I'd be better off buying a new system.
