Default Glad you like it

Hi there Pops,

Glad you like the site. I've started it because there are an amazing number out there like you, who are interested in GPS but don't really know where to start.

Please feel free to post any questions you might have

Enjoy,

David

Default Thanks

I've found on my travels that there are quite a lot of people who want or need help and advice, and being interested in technology I quite like to get involved in such things I have quite a lot of experience with Garmin units and want to learn more about TomTom so it's a learning experience for me
(As you might already know if you've seen my other site www.bestbikingroads.com)

I hope you find it useful.

David

Garmin Mapsource V9 & Zumo 550 will do this for you. I use nearly all back roads in Europe unless I'm in a hurry, which I seldom am. Their is a lot of unpaved roads (limited) shown in the Mapsource V9. I generally plan my routes in area's referring to paper maps to locate the greenlanes and then checking against Mapsource. A great feature on the Zumo for me is trackback as it allows me to view journeys I have made on Mapsource, then amend them and save for future trips. You can also view your routes in Google earth which allows you to see the terrain and what its like, very useful for mountain terrain. You can get the Zumo to route you a myriad of ways, for example, when I want to stick to very rural roads and gravel tracks I set avoidances on navigation to "avoid toll roads, highways and allow unpaved roads. This setting will set an adventure in progress I assure you, but suitable for trailie bikes really. It takes a bit of time and effort to get used to all the settings, but worth it in the end. Hope this is of help to you.

We have been using tom tom rider for last 18 months, we loved it so much we bought a second one for portable use in the car. We have travelled thousands of miles, and tom tom has taken us on unbelievably amazing roads, short cuts.....places I am sure Ducatis and Agustas have not been previously seen. We have Garmin in our car, and we wouldnt swap TomTom for anything, its so much fun and leads us into adventures and meetings with people that would not have happened without it. It is much more creative and adventurous than Garmin :-)

Default Tom Tom

Hi Terrie,

The Garmin car sat navs have a more limited routing functionalitly than the motorcycle ones. Can you specify please which Garmin car unit you have?

Can you eloborate on the main features that you like about the TomTom Rider? I'm curious to know if there are some features about it that I've missed?

Many Thanks,

David
