I am looking more at the budget end of gps units...dead set on garmin! at costco there is a garmin nuvi 270 for $200 plus costco's 90 day return it no questions asked warranty!
the second option is the garmin c550...it has a longer battery life and text to speech.... but it a little on the bulky side... which one? any input would be appreciated and does anybody know if they use the same sirf star 3 chipset?

Hi there,
This Document contains some specs about the C-Series streetpilots that you may not have seen: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/as...eries_spec.pdf Looks like it does use a Sirf III antenna Although when I saw a c550 being used once and it seemed to drop the signal fairly often (when compared to the newer Garmin units) although I can't say much else apart from it being very similar to the Nuvi apart from the size. I guess it boils down to what price you are paying, if they were the same price, I'd probably take the Nuvi (as it's still a current product and so updates will still come for it for a long time) Just my opinion David |
