Well I'm a confirmed Garmin man. I've had Garmin units since before they could autoroute. I agree though that the Mapsource programmes are great, especially for a cold Winter's night when I'm planning my forth-coming Spring and Summer jaunts. I presently use a 2610 but I'll probably have the Zumo 550 before my next trip.
Garmin also seem to be better supported with mapping. I've got the Adria route maps for my old Streetpilot III. This has Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia/Herzegovina in street level routable mapping.

The main reason for this is because of the intended use of the unit, if you want only to go from A to B and not get lost, then there is not much between the units and therefore the price advantage of the TomTom Rider looks interesting.
However if you want to plan and make trips on your bike, and save and change custom trips on you SatNav, the Mapsource software that is boxed with most Garmin units really shines. This allows you to do extensive pre-trip planning and is highly versatile.
So if you are an A to B person, TomTom is best, but if you want to enjoy trips in a more involved way, go for the Zumo.
Additionally, if you ride a lot off road, consider a 278. . . .
