Default MapSource on Windows Vista

Have just acquired a new computer running Vista. It is impossible to transfer data from my Zumo 550 to mapsource. Keep getting an error message blocking the transfer.

I have no such problem with my other computer running XP home.

Any comments/advice much appreciated.

Default MapSource on Vista

Hi there,

The security model on Windows Vista is somewhat more comprehensive than XP, which is a good security feature some of the time, but annoying and time consuming in most cases.

If you're having a problem with MapSource, try the following:

Windows Vista -> Control Panel -> Security -> Allow a program through Windows Firewall -> 'Exceptions Tab' -> Add Program -> Select MapSource

This should prevent your access issue, if it does not, you might need to set the program to run as Administrator or (and I can't remember if I had to do this on my Vista Enterprise or not) set the compatibility mode of the application to Windows XP.

To set MapSource to run as an Administrative User, do the following:

Windows Vista -> Windows Explorer -> C:\Garmin -> then right click MapSource.exe -> Click on Compatibility Tab -> Select Run This Program as an Administrator

To run in Windows XP Compatibility mode, do the following:

To set MapSource to run as an Administrative User, do the following:

Windows Vista -> Windows Explorer -> C:\Garmin -> then right click MapSource.exe -> Click on Compatibility Tab -> Run This Program in Compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

Hope this Helps,

David

Default USB Port Conflict

This could be USB conflict or something similar, try the following steps:

Close down MapSource.

Unplug you Zumo, plug it into a different USB port.

When you plug in the ZUMO, can you browse to it using Windows explorer? Can you see the directories, Garmin, and so forth?

If you can, try now reopening MapSource, and clicking 'receive from device', do you still get the message?

If not, check that you have the latest version of MapSource (from http://www8.garmin.com/support/download.jsp )

Still got Problems, then post a screenshot

David
