Unhappy

Hi David,
1st off...love this forum!!
I refer to upload as wanting to get a friends route (from email) onto my unit (Zumo 550) which I assume I first need to save onto mapsource.I checked and I do hv latest version.Once route is on mapsource,I honestly cant read it,not sure where it begins, route travels and where it ends.
You mentioin that I can recalculate route within mapsource itself and not sure how to do this?
I know how to connect and try to send route to GPS but again not sure how to send"map detail" as well?
Finally how do I check if mapsource is unlocked? All this and let me remind you that I am in an area (building) where I cannot get satellite receptions.
I truly feel very inept and stupid with all these questions, that probably hv simple answers!
I look forward to yr tutorial

When you open MapSource, There is a left hand pane and it has a tab named routes (if you have opened a route it should be shown here) in order to see where it is in MapSource, right click the item in the routes tab and select 'show selected item on map'

This should show where it is (Example attached help_1.jpg)

You can recalculate it yourself, but let's not do that yet as I think it's too early, first find out why you can't see the route, otherwise I think you will just confuse the issue further.

If you have a Zumo 550, you probably don't need to do this, as the 550 has a large amount of maps pre-loaded, so unless you have deleted them from your unit, you probably have them on the unit.
If you want to check this readily, one way to do it is to search for an address on the Zumo that is in the area where the route you are trying to use is located. If the street name address can be found for this area, then it is already loaded into the unit.

The Zumo 550 should have unlocked maps already loaded, so I would leave the GPS unit itself alone here. Check that your MapSource application is unlocked by clicking on 'Utilities' -> 'Unlock Maps' and going through the wizard. Even if your maps are already unlocked it won't hurt to run this again and it may well unlock your maps.

HTH,

David

Jaws100,

Sucking my thumb and not getting very far!

I have my Garmin registered and also Europe NTv9 but when I go into Mapsource nothing shows under the heading "maps". The whole of the toolbar is there except the map name.

Could you come to the rescue again?

Default Have you a Zumo 550 ?

If I'm understanding your question, nothing should show under maps unless you pick an area in the map section. If its a preloaded Zumo 550 you have, do not attempt to send maps to it as they are preloaded on the unit already. Only send way points or tracks or routes to the unit. Zoom in or out on mapsource to see all the mapping.

Explain what you want to do in Mapsource and it will give me a better idea how to answer.

Jaws100,

You're a brick. Thanks for that. Yes it's a Zumo 550 I have and as you say pre-loaded. At this stage I honestly don't know what use I will get from Mapsource simply because I don't know enough about it. I assume that my interest in it will be for loading routes etc; I recently bought Microsoft autoroute with GPS locator assuming that I could (as I have been doing) work out my routes on the easier to read and see Autoroute, and then transfer the routes worked out to the GPS. I found out literally just yesterday that I can't load routes from Autoroute directly to the GPS, so I can't understand why there is an interface between the two.I could have saved myself 100 Euro!! But there you are. You live and learn! what I do at present is work out the routes on Autoroute and then input them manually into the GPS, and obviously there is a lot of work attached to that. I suppose that's really the answer as to why I want to use Mapsource. Direct inputting seems so much easier than what I'm doing now.

I have downloaded Mapsource from the internet, but must I still buy the package so that i can use it properly? If all this sounds a bit naive i have no doubt that I will learn as I go, and I would certainly appreciate good advice!

Patrick

Patrick, I could write lots to explain all of what you want to do, but maybe showing you would be easier. Its very easy to do routes in Mapsource for your GPS and download especially if you were shown how. I live close to you in KK . If you want to do this e-mail me at jd100@diginet.ie.

By the way did you not get a Mapsource DVD with your Zumo ? to load on your PC ?
Cheers
John
