Default MapSource/City Nav Maps Problems

Hi guys,

I have an old Nuv1 310 which I have just purchased the Euro City Nav Map SD card for - this works fine. I want to use the MapSource software so that I can plan my route before I go and maybe download a few roadbooks.

I have misplaced the box the Nuvi came in but I managed to download and installMapSource 6.15.6 from the Garmin support site by first downloading and installing Garmin Training Centre.

My issue is how do I access the Europe (and UK for that matter) maps on the MapSource application? When I select 'Transfer from device' and point it to the Nuvi, i get "no maps installed" message. If i direct mapsource to the sd card drive directory i get "Some Maps could not be opened because the following mapsource products are not installed; City Navigator Europe NT2010.1"

Can anyone help? Or can I just not access these maps on mapsource? I find it odd that the mapsource will not recognise the UK NT maps which are preloaded onto my Nuvi - at present the mapsource only has very basic UK maps showing.

Any advice greatly appreciated - I'm going to Spain and Italy net Thursday!

Hi there,

You can't do it like this, the MapSource software does not include the maps, for that you need to buy City Navigator 2010 from Garmin.

However, I don't think this will solve your problem as as far as I can see pre-planned routes cannot be downloaded onto the nuvi 310

Your best bet therefore is to try and make the route on the unit using waypoints but be careful doing this as I think the recalculate function on this unit cannot be switched off either, so if you make a wrong turn during the route, the route will be automatically recalculated.

As you can probably see, this unit is not really ideal for what you want.

My advice would be plan your routes using a map in the tank bag and simply use the gps to follow them visually, or get yourself a unit which can handle routes properly (anything from a 2nd hand Streetpilot through to a Zumo would do it)

HTH,

David

Here's a feature comparison of the Nuvi 310 and the Zumo 500 if it helps (it seems to show that routes cannot be loaded onto the Nuvi 310)
