Getting the best route for you
It has been mentioned a few times that the routes calculated by on-route are not suitable for what the rider expects. For Example, what a rider expects from a route is different depending on what type of bike he has, his age, his experience whether he has a passenger, etc.
On-Route provides a few default selections for route types such as 'secondary roads', 'scenic roads', 'fast roads', etc but within these options it is also possible to select option sub-options such as 'avoid towns','avoid motorways','avoid tolls','take scenic routes where possible' the use of these options can give very different results, for this reason, it is recommended that if you have a clear idea about the kind of trips you enjoy most, the optimal way to use on-route for trip planning is to assign a 'custom profile' and use this as a basis for your planning. By setting a custom profile this reduces the level of effort required to produce a route to your liking.
Please note: On-Route will not be able to make a nice scenic route where no nice scenic routes are actually available (e.g. imagine that my trip is from east to west Paris)
