I am having major trouble unlocking my 2610 unit I bought on ebay last year (not a
'dodgy' one as I went to the fella's house) and when I went abroad last summer I ended up using its basics only, ie no hotels etc. After contacting Garmin numerous times and being told allsorts would work, I have now tried again to uninstall Mapsource on my pc, deleting regedit files as Garmin told me, then tried installing everything again. When I have tried to transfer maps to my unit, I have done 'save to' then 'USB GPS' then 'Save' and it says 'No USB device available'. I have just tried their 'Customer Support' (yeah right) and was told this is not what to do and the instruction leaflet is wrong!! This was after I was told to send my 2610 back to them and when the fella couldn't find a price he lost interest as if he couldn't be @rsed or just didn't understand the problem, then said he'd email me the 'correct' instructions Which also turned out not to work - cheers Mahamadou). I am continually getting the start up message on my unit 'Some maps could not be unlocked....etc), but when I enter the 25 digit code the green save bar comes across then immediately returns me to the 'Some maps could not be unlocked....' screen and again we go round in circles. Please can you shed any light on this or do I just go and buy a TomTom? ! Aaaaarghhhhhh!!! Anyone that can help is gonna go to the top of my 'Gonna buy you a pint or few' list! Cheers Steve |

Hi Steve,

If your maps are locked, it should complain when you try to send them to the unit using this method, let's try this step by step and see if we can get you to the end :-) David |

Hmmm, interesting.
The next thing to try would be to try updating MapSource and then trying a different CF card in the 2610 (I guess this might be faulty) Download the latest version of MapSource from here: Garmin: MapSource Updates & Downloads Then in order to check that the problem is not being caused by the Compact Flash (CF) card, I would suggest that you could try another on that you know works in the 2610. Have you got a camera or something which also uses CF cards? Has the map transfer to the card ever worked for you ar has this problem only recently started? David |
