Hi All, another problem just arose. Husband has a Blackberry 8830 phone which is bluetooth compatible. We tried every which way to paired it and finally it seem to work. The phone book from the Blackberry is on the screen of the GPS system. If I call the cell from the house phone we can hear it ringing in the helmet but there is no way to answer. It says in the instruction from Garmin that there should be an green ANSWER button on the screen but nothing. He also can not make any calls out. Any suggestions?

Hi there,
When you bought the bike with the GPS, you should have been given a yellow card which contains the Gamin unlock codes for your unit (i.e. the 2820/NavIII) with the maps that came with it (probably City Navigator 8 or 9) unless you have this unlock code I would not load the upgrade the maps on the unit or you may be stuck, because: When you but an upgrade map from Garmin, you need to still have the old unlock code for MapSource and the old unit otherwise you will not be able to use the new maps, and once you've loaded the locked new maps onto the new unit this problem will become much more annoying than it is now so I would suggest that you have the following 3 options: (1) Try to locate the yellow card with the unlock codes that came with the 2820 in the box from the original owner or the dealer where you bought the bike. If this is not possible there is a chance that Garmin can retrieve it from their records (but I suspect this will only work if the previous owner has registered his unit on Garmin.com which is optional) Once you have these, you should be able to readily upgrade and load the maps onto the unit, see here for more information about how to upload the maps to your unit: http://www.bestbikingroads.com/usefu..._Tutorial1.pdf (2) Buy a full copy of the latest maps, not an upgrade, then you can use the new maps with the unit without the need for the unlock codes from the previous owner, however, if you have opened the box for your upgrade now, you will have to fight like crazy to get any kind of refund from Garmin (believe me, I know!) (3) Forget about the new maps you bought for the short term, find out which version of the maps are currently installed on the unit (with the unit switched on select the settings page, then select map and select about and this should show the version of the map that is currently installed on the unit) Then go to your local Garmin dealer and ask him to burn you a copy of that MapSource verison. Then go home and install this version on your computer. Then the maps that are installed on your computer will match those on the unit and you can happily make routes and send them to the unit without problems (just don't try and send the maps themselves as this won't work) Option 3 is easiest, option 1 the best, and option 2 the most expensive. If you're confused read through my tutorial link first, then re-read this thread that'll probably help ![]() Good luck and feel free to ask any other questions. HTH, David |
