Used my Tom Tom Rider 2 for the 1st time this weekend and have a problem with the Bike Cradle. I started off with a fully charged unit and had it wired to the bikes power system for charging on the road. After a several hours the battery indicator flashed and eventually I obviously lost power entirely.
I have checked the power lead & there is power from the bike, so my question is, does the cradle have its own built in fuse, and if so how do you access it ? If not, has anyone else had a problem with the cradle ? |

I now have a working Tom Tom Rider 2 which charges on the bike & in the car.
Had to send the cradle and Tom Tom uinit back twice and on the final instance they managed to wipe the Western Europe maps from my SD card, leaving me with the Canary Islands ![]() All sorted now, but it still makes me wonder if there is an inherant problem with the bike cradle from a power perspective. (Did hear that Tom Tom were about to bring out a revised cradle. ) |

There is a problem with the cradles. I have had my TTR2 for just over a year and then it lost its power connection etc. If you Google Rider 2 you will see that this is a common problem world wide. I called TT support who denied any knowledge of this but arranged for the Rider and cradle to be returned (minus the SD card at their request). They returned it to me in 4 working days with a new cradle which is working fine. I have today sent a fax off to Tom Tom head office asking what they are going to do about this design problem. Its ok whilst the thing is under warranty but the cradles cost £45 each. A guy in my bike club is on his 3rd one.

45 quid is quite a lot for a cradle if it breaks regularly, however the cradle for the Garmin Zumo 500 series is well over a 100 pounds! (although admittedly Garmin do seem to replace broken cradles if you have a good reason)
