Default A Coupla' Questions

Hi
I just purchased a Zumo 550 a week ago, and am totally new to the technology. I'm trying to familiarize myself with the unit, and have a couple of questions that I can't find answers to:

1. I have installed a 2 GB SD card, and the computer recognizes it. Can I store route files on the card, and then access these routes from the Zumo when I'm away from the computer?
2. When I download a route to the Zumo via MapSource, where is it located in the Zumo's memory (or storage space.) Should I be able to see the file on the Zumo using Windows Explorer?

Thanks for your help.

Jack

Hi there Jack, welcome to the forums.

To answer your questions:

Yes. Copying routes onto an SD card is a very handy thing to do as it allows you to share routes with other Zumo riders in a group (you can copy off their sd cards and they off yours)
When you insert the SD card with a route or routes on it, your Zumo should ask you if you want to 'import' some new details. The best thing is if you save the file as gpx format from MapSource before copying it onto the SD card otherwise the Zumo won't recognise it if you're not near a computer.

By default, you should find that routes downloaded into your Zumo go into a file called Current.gpx in the Garmin/GPX directory. Garmin MapSource works with gdb and gpx files, gpx being more universal and gdb being a Garmin Proprietry format.

HTH,

David

Thanks for the reply David. After following your suggestions several times without success, I phoned Garmin Support. It turns out that, despite having just recently purchased my unit, its software was out of date. The support tech directed me to the update that I needed and everything worked fine once I had installed it. I guess the message in this is that people should ensure that their units have the latest software versions.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Jack
