Recording tracks on a Zumo

I've noticed that the Zumo breaks up a track into sections periodically and these are named based on the recorded date, does anyone know under what criteria the Zumo chooses to break the tracks up? I presumed it was when the unit was switched on and off but I haven't looked into it further.
